Now we're talking!
(Review by Oven Egeland)

It would certainly be an exaggeration to say that Madison has provided us with high quality soundboard recordings through the years. Almost every release of such material have stemmed from a low generation copy! The studio CD's from Madison have, however been significantly better, although some dubious "Legendary Performer" volumes are made available thanks to same label.

This new release of the Boston concert from November 10, 1971 is hopefully the first of several quality soundboards from Madison to come. They have already announced an updated release of the June 3rd concert from 1976. This time in perfect quality, after first having released an acceptable - though incomplete - version some years ago. Anyway, "One Night Only!" is a quality release in every respect!

For the first time we get a soundboard recording from a tour in 1971 with good quality. Not perfect, far from it actually, but so much better than "Power Of Zhazam".

The content will of course be familiar to a large portion of Elvis fans already, since this concert was made available 8 years ago (!!). I never liked Power Of Zhazam, the sound made a false impression that the concert was somewhat weak and uninspired.

It is not! Elvis is in fine form all the way through and delivers several strong performances. I would rate 'Polk Salad Annie' among one of his best. 'Proud Mary' is slightly different from the On Tour versions that would follow half a year later.

Elvis is fine mood through the show and I guess most Boston audience left the concert arena satisfied.

The CD comes with a nice booklet, making this release all the merrier!

THUMBS UP and HANDS DOWN!!!
