(Review by Oven Egeland)
This updated soundtrack is presented in a very stylish way. The CD is housed in a colorful gatefold pack with appropriate pictures and necessary information. Inside you will also find a booklet telling more about the movie and the soundtrack. A nice touch from FTD, indeed!
The CD first contains the original LP soundtrack. In addition you will find 14 bonus tracks, 9 of which has never been released officially before.
The sound quality is very good all the way through, except for a rather scratchy acetate recording of 'Take Me To The Fair' from August 30.
Almost all takes have been available on bootlegs before; see Girl Happy At The World's Fair. Only 'Relax' (take 5, 6 and 7), 'Happy Ending' (take 4, 5 and 6) and the August master of 'Take Me To The Fair' are new.
I noticed something strange, though. Listen to take 1 to 4 of 'I'm Falling In Love Tonight'. This was released on the Silver Box several years ago. Back then it started with "Beyond The Bend take 1", before going into take 2, take 3 and finally take 4. On this CD it starts with "take 2", then take 3, take 4 and finally "Beyond The Bend take 1....I'm Falling In Love Tonight take 1..." I wonder if this is the correct sequence. If so it means that RCA did some smart editing back in 1980.
However, I would recommend this CD whether you like the music or not. Such dedication from FTD should be supported!
